Alcohols are a class of organic compounds that contain a hydroxyl group OH. This group, in turn, is associated with carbon (C).
Alcohols are divided into the following groups:
The first is those that contain one hydroxyl group, based on which the termination ol is added.
As an example:
CH3OH is called methanol,
C2H5OH is called ethanol,
C3H7OH is called propanol.
The second group is polyatomic, which contain two or more hydroxyl groups.
