On segment AD, points B and C are selected so that point B lies between A and C. It is known that AC = 24cm, BC = 9cm, AD 41cm. Find the length of segment BD.

1) Find the length of the segment CD if it is known that point C lies between points A and D, and segment AD is 41 cm, and segment AC is 24 cm long.

CD = AD – AC.

СD = 41 – 24 = 17 cm.

2) Let us find out how long the segment BD is, if it is known that it consists of two segments, the segment BC is 9 cm, and the segment CD is 17 cm long.

BD = BC + CD.

ВD = 17 + 9 = 26 cm.

Answer: the segment BD is 23 cm long.
