| Let us find the length ∆ of the segment [A; B], from the coordinate of point B we subtract the coordinate of point A:
∆ = 2 – (- 6) = 2 + 6 = 8.
Find half the length of the segment:
∆ / 2 = 8/2 = 4.
We find the coordinate of point C, which is equidistant from points A and B on the numerical axis, by adding ∆ / 2 to the coordinate of point A, or subtracting it from the coordinate of point B:
C = – 6 + 4 = 2 – 4 = – 2 (minus two).
