On the coordinate line, point C (-3) is the midpoint of segment AB. Find the length of segment AB (in unit segments) if: 1) A (-8) 2) A (-5) 3) B (2) 4) B (1 )

1) If C (-3) is the middle of the segment AB and A (-8), then

AC = -3 – (-8) = 5 and

AB = 2AC = 2 * 5 = 10.

2) If C (-3) is the middle of the segment AB and A (-5), then

AC = -3 – (-5) = 2 and

AB = 2AC = 2 * 2 = 4.

3) If C (-3) is the middle of the segment AB and B (2), then

CB = 2 – (-3) = 5 and

AB = 2CB = 2 * 5 = 10.

4) If C (-3) is the midpoint of the segment AB and B (1), then

CB = 1 – (-3) = 4 and

AB = 2CB = 2 * 4 = 8.
