On the segment AB equal to 48 cm, points C and D are marked so that point C lies between points B and D. Find the length of the segment CD if AC = 24 cm and BD = 32 cm.
If AB = 48 cm, and DB = 32 cm, we find what the segment AD is equal to, for this:
AD = AB – DB = 48 – 32 = 16 cm.
The CD segment will be equal to:
CD = AC – AD.
AC = 24 cm.
Then it turns out that CD is equal to:
CD = AC – AD = 24 – 16 = 8 cm.
Answer: The CD segment is 8 centimeters long.
