On the segment AB, the length of which is 10 cm, point c is marked so that ac = 6 cm.

On the segment AB, the length of which is 10 cm, point c is marked so that ac = 6 cm. Find the distance between the midpoints of the segments ac and ab.

Let D be the midpoint of the segment AB, and O – the midpoint of the segment AC. The length of the ABP segment is equal to half of the AB segment, that is, 5 cm. The length of the AO segment is equal to half of the AC segment, that is, 3 cm. The distance between the midpoints of the AC and AB segments is equal to the OD segment, the length of which can be found as the difference between the length of the ABP segment and the AO segment.

5 cm – 3 cm = 2 cm

Answer: the distance between the midpoints of the segments AC and AB is 2 cm.
