On the segment CD there are two points M and N. So point m lies between points C and N. Find the length of the segment MN if CD = 33 cm, CH = 20cm, MD = 21 cm.
Let the length of the segment MN be x cm.
1) CM + MN = CN.
CM + x = 20.
CM = 20 – x (cm).
2) MN + ND = MD.
x + ND = 21.
ND = 21 – x (cm).
3) CM + MN + ND = CD.
(20 – x) + x + (21 – x) = 33.
20 – x + x + 21 – x = 33.
20 + 21 – 33 = x.
x = 8 (cm).
Answer: the length of the segment MN is 8 cm.
