At that time, the tsar tried to take into account the interests of the landowners, but also to abolish serfdom, since the peasants were very unhappy. Thus, the cancellation terms were presented as rather compromise. The main conditions for the abolition of serfdom were:

1) The peasants, of course, received personal freedom;

2) The landlords were forced to transfer the land to the peasants, where their houses and outbuildings were located;

3) The peasants were forced to redeem the rest of the land from the landlords;

4) The peasants remained temporarily liable until the ransom was paid.
