| One dragonfly flies at a speed of 12 m / s and catches up with a friend who flies at a speed of 10 m / s. At first, the distance between them was 6 m. In how many seconds will the first dragonfly catch up with the second?
Let’s denote by the unknown variable x seconds – it will take the first dragonfly to catch up with the second.
Then 12 meters – the first dragonfly will fly by until the moment of overtaking.
10x meters – the second dragonfly will fly by until the moment of overtaking.
At first, the distance between the dragonflies was 6 meters. Let’s make the equation:
12x – 6 = 10x;
2x = 6;
x = 3 seconds it will take the first dragonfly to catch up with the second.
