According to the centerline theorem, the middle line of a trapezoid is parallel to the bases and is equal to their half-sum.

Let’s designate one base as x, and compose the equation:

(x + 10): 2 = 8;

x + 10 = 8 * 2;

x + 10 = 16;

x = 16 – 10;

x = 6.

Answer: the second base is 6 cm.
