One of the sides of a triangle is 24 cm, the similar side of a similar triangle

One of the sides of a triangle is 24 cm, the similar side of a similar triangle is 6 cm. Find the area of the second triangle if the area of the first is 176 cm2.

The ratio of similar sides of similar triangles is equal to the coefficient of similarity:

k = 24/6 = 4 – coefficient of similarity of these triangles.

It is known that the ratio of the areas of similar triangles is equal to the square of the similarity coefficient, therefore, the area of the smaller triangle can be found by dividing the area of the larger one by the square of the similarity coefficient:

S = 176/42 = 176/16 = 11 cm2.
