| One of the sides of the rectangle is 2 cm smaller than the other and half the size of the third, find its sides if the perimeter is 22 cm.
Let’s say that the second side of the figure is x cm.
Since the first is 2 cm less than the second, its length will be: x – 2 cm.
In this case, the length of the third side will be: 2 * (x – 2).
Since the perimeter is equal to the sum of the sides of the figure, we get the equation:
x + x – 2 + 2 * x – 4 = 22.
4 * x = 22 + 6.
4 * x = 28.
x = 28/4 = 7 cm (second side).
x – 2 = 7 – 2 = 5 cm (first side).
2 * x – 4 = 2 * 7 – 4 = 14 – 4 = 10 cm.
Answer: The sides of the figure are 5, 7 and 10 centimeters.
