One segment on the map is 4.5cm long and the other 6.5cm. Find the length of the first segment on the terrain if the second segment on the terrain has a length of 7.8 km.

Method 1.

Find the ratio of the lengths of the second and first segments on the map.

6.5 / 4.5 = 1 4/9.

In this case, the length of the first segment on the ground will be 1 4/9 times less than the length of the second.

We get:

7.8 / 1 4/9 = 5.4 cm.

Method 2.

We translate the length of the second segment on the ground in centimeters.

Find the scale of the map.

We divide the distance in centimeters by the length of the segment.

Hence the length of the first segment:
