One side of the parallelogram is 7 cm smaller than the other, and its perimeter is 54 cm. Find the sides of the parallelogram.

In order to find the sides of the parallelogram, we will compose and solve the equation. To do this, apply the formula to find the perimeter of a parallelogram.

The condition says that one side of the parallelogram is 7 cm less than the other. And we also know that its perimeter is 54 cm.

Let’s denote by the variable x cm the length of one of the sides of the parallelogram, then (x – 7) cm.

P = 2 (a + b);

We get the equation:

2 (x + (x – 7)) = 54;

x + x – 7 = 54: 2;

2x – 7 = 27;

2x = 27 + 7;

2x = 34;

x = 17 cm length of one side and 17 – 7 = 10 cm length of the second side.
