One side of a rectangle is 3 times smaller than the other, which is equal to the length and width of the rectangle if its perimeter is 80cm.

1. Let the length of one side of the rectangle be x cm.

3. The perimeter of a rectangle is equal to the sum of the lengths of all its sides or twice the sum of two adjacent sides. By the condition of the problem, the perimeter is 80 cm.
