One side of the rectangle is 40 cm and the other is 10% shorter. Calculate the area and perimeter of the rectangle.

1) Let’s find out how many cm the second side of the rectangle is shorter than its first side, if we know that it is 10%.

40 – 100%;

X – 10%;

X = 40 * 10/100;

X = 4 cm.

2) Find the length of the second side of the rectangle if we found out that it is 4 cm shorter than the first.

40 – 4 = 36 cm.

3) Find the perimeter of the rectangle.

36 * 2 + 40 * 2 = 152 cm.

4) Find the area of this rectangle.

40 * 36 = 1440 cm².

Answer: the perimeter of the rectangle given to us was 152 cm, and its area is 1440 cm².
