x² + 2x = 8;

x² + 2x – 8 = 0;

The first value x = (- 2 + √4 + 4 x 8) ^ 2 = (- 2 + 6) / 2 = 2 meters.

The second value is x = (- 2 – 6) / 2 = – 4. Not accepted.

The width of the room is 2 meters, the length of the room is 2 + 2 = 4 meters.

Answer: the width of the room is 2 meters, the length of the room is 4 meters.
