Perimeter of triangle OPR = 24cm. The OR side is 2 cm longer than the OP side and 2 cm shorter than the PR side. Find the sides of a triangle?

Before finding the lengths of the sides of the triangle OPR, remember that the perimeter of the figure is equal to the sum of all its sides.
Now we take the length of the side OP as x.
Then the length of the OR side is x + 2 (cm).
Now let us express the length of the side PR in terms of x.
The length of the PR side is x + 2 + 2 or x + 4 (cm).
Since the perimeter of the triangle OPR is known by the problem statement, the following equation can be written and solved.
x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 24.
3x + 6 = 24.
3x = 24 – 6.
3x = 18.
x = 18: 3.
x = 6 (cm) – side length OP.
x + 2 = 6 + 2 = 8 (cm) – side length OR.
x + 4 = 6 + 4 = 10 (cm) – side length PR.
Answer: 6 cm is the length of the OP side; 8 cm – OR length; 10 cm – PR length.
