Please assess the main types of soils in our country. Indicate which of them are most favorable for agriculture, which are mainly forests.

The main types of soils in Russia (from north to south): arctic, tundra – gley, permafrost – taiga, gray forest, black soil, brown forest, chestnut. Arctic and tundra – gley are the “poorest” and unproductive, so the decay process practically does not go due to low air temperature, but the further south the more actively this process is, and the humus content increases.

Chernozem soils are considered the most favorable for agriculture, since they have the highest percentage of humus, which affects fertility. These soils are formed in a temperate continental climate in the Central Black Earth region, the Volga region, the south of the Urals, and in some places in western Siberia (southern part). Forests grow on permafrost – taiga soils (taiga), gray forest (deciduous forests).
