Point A, B and C lie on one straight line. Find the length of the segment BC, if AB = 24cm, AC = 32cm. How many solutions does the problem have?
The problem has two solutions:
1. When point A lies between B and C:
BC = AB + AC = 24 + 32 = 56.
2. When point B lies between A and C:
BC = AC – AB = 32 – 24 = 8.
Answer: the problem has two solutions: 1) BC = 56; 2) BC = 8
