Point C divides the segment AB in the ratio 3: 7. Find the length of the segment AB if the segment BC is 12 cm larger than the segment AC.
Point C, divided the segment AB so that the segments AC and BC are related as 3: 7. We get:
AC: BC = 3/7;
AC = 3/7 * BC;
It is known from the conditions of the problem that the BC is 12 cm larger than the AC. Then:
BC – AC = 12;
BC – 3/7 * BC = 12;
4/7 * BC = 12;
BC = 12 * 7: 4 = 21 cm;
AC = 21 * 3/7 = 9 cm.Then:
AB = AC + BC = 21 + 9 = 30 cm.
Answer: 30 cm.
