Point M is marked on the segment AB. Find the length AB if AM = 40 cm

Point M is marked on the segment AB. Find the length AB if AM = 40 cm, and the segment MB is shorter than the segment AM by m cm. Simplify the expression and its meaning when m = 14

Point M is marked on the segment AB. AM = 40 cm, and the MВ segment is shorter than the AM segment by m cm.

Suppose that the segment MВ has a length that is 40 – m.

Hence, the segment AB = AM + MB.

AB = 40 + (40 – m).

AB = 40 + 40 – m.

AB = 80 – m.

If m is 14, then the length of AB will be:

AB = 80 – 14 = 66 cm.
