Points A, B, C are given on the straight line, with AB = 4 cm, AC = 6 cm. Find the length of the segment BC if points B and C lie on opposite sides of point A.

1) Since points B and C lie on opposite sides of point A, in order to find the length of segment BC, you need to add the length of segment AB to the length of segment AC.
BC = AB + AC = 4 + 6 = 10cm.
2) Let’s check from the length of the segment BC, subtract the length of the segment AB, the length of the segment AC should be obtained.
BC – AB = 10 – 4 = 6.
Therefore, our answer is 10cm.
