Points AB and C are collinear in the order in which they are listed. The length of the segment AB is 4cm and the length of the segment BC is 6cm. Find the distance between the midpoints of the segments AC and BC.

The length of the segment AC = AB + BC = 4 + 6 = 10 cm, and the middle of the segment AC, point D, is at a distance of 10/2 = 5 cm from point A and point C;

The midpoint of segment BC, point E, is 6/2 = 3 cm from point B and point C;

Distance DE = CD – CE = 5 – 3 = 2 cm.
