Based on the conditions of the problem, the length of the segment BN = 36 cm, and the segment CN = 8 * BC. Then
BN = BC + CN, hence BC = BN – CN.
Let’s compose equations, in which x is the length of the BC segment, that is, which we need to find:
x = 36 – 8 * x
9 * x = 36
x = 36: 9
x = 4 cm.
Answer: the length of the BC segment is 4 cm.
