| Points M and K divide segment AB into three parts: AM, MK and KB. Find the length of segment AB if AM = 3 cm 5 mm, segment MK is 13 mm longer than segment AM, and segment AK is 8 mm shorter than segment KB.
We calculate the length of each of the parts of the segment AB, immediately converting millimeters to centimeters.
1 cm = 10 mm.
By condition,
AB = AM + MK + KВ,
AM = 3.5 cm,
MK = AM + 1.3 = 3.5 + 1.3 = 4.8 cm,
KВ = AK + 0.8 = AM + MK + 0.8 = 3.5 + 4.8 + 0.8 = 9.1 cm.
Therefore, the length of the segment AB is equal to:
AB = 3.5 + 4.8 + 9.1 = 17.4 cm.
