Polyps lead an attached lifestyle. What structural features are determined by their lifestyle?

In most cases, polyps are colonial individuals living in one place, although there are also solitary representatives that can move around. The shape of the body resembles a container with one hole, and has ray symmetry. It consists of an inner and outer layer of cells, and in the center is the only cavity – the intestinal cavity. When eating, the polyp swallows the prey, digests it and removes it through the mouth. In colonial individuals, cavities are interconnected, forming a network of channels through which captured food passes. Such a symmetry of the body (ray) increases the area for catching food, and also allows you to defend yourself from all sides from enemy attacks. Protection and food extraction is carried out by special cells located in the outer layer (ectoderm) on the tentacles of the polyp. The cells are called stinging cells.
