The Byzantine Empire was a highly developed state. It was located at the junction of cultures and religions – Christianity and Islam, East and West, had an advantageous geographical position in terms of saturation of trade routes. All areas of life had a higher level of development than in the countries founded by the barbarians on the ruins of the Western Roman Empire or in the states of Asia and Africa. The level of development of culture was also much higher due to the basis – the heritage of the Romans and Greeks in this area.
