Potassium hydroxide was added to 100 g of a solution containing 10% copper chloride (||).
Potassium hydroxide was added to 100 g of a solution containing 10% copper chloride (||). Calculate the mass of the precipitate formed.
We draw up the reaction equation and place the coefficients in it:
CuCl2 + 2KOH = 2KCl + Cu (OH) 2.
The precipitate is copper hydroxide.
1) Calculate the mass of the solute of copper chloride in its solution. To do this, we multiply the mass fraction of the substance by the mass of the solution and divide by one hundred percent: 100 * 10/100 = 10g.
2) According to the periodic table, we find the molar mass of copper chloride: 64 + 35.5 * 2 = 135.
3) The amount of copper chloride substance: 10/135 = 0.07 mol.
4) The amounts of the substance of copper chloride and copper hydroxide are 1: 1. This means that the amount of the substance of the precipitate is 0.07 mol.
5) The mass of the sediment is: 0.07 * 64 = 4.48 g – the answer.
