After the reforms of this statesman, debt slavery was abolished, debts were forgiven, and the sale of grain was prohibited. In addition, the rights of ordinary citizens and nobility were equalized. Thus, now all citizens, regardless of their origin, could take part in the assembly. So in Athens at that time a democratic form of government was born. We can say that Solon was the father of democracy, like Herodotus was the father of history.
