Religious views of the inhabitants of Mesopotamia?

In Antiquity, there were several large states in the territories of Europe and Asia. The states of Mesopotamia were located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. They had different religions. All of them were based on pagan beliefs. Large-scale temples dedicated to pagan gods were built in Mesopotamia. But the fragmentation was that the cities assigned certain deities to themselves. They often worshiped a particular god. The most revered was the god Shamash – the patron saint of the sun.
