The Indians, in alliance with other Buddhist dynasties, managed to repel the first onslaught of Muslims. But the decline of these lands in the XI-XII centuries led to the seizure of northern India by Muslims. In these territories, a large state of the Delhi Sultanate was first created, and the Buddhists came under the rule of rulers who professed Islam.

Having existed until 1555, the Delhi Sultanate fell under the onslaught of a large army of the Great Mughals.
