On the basis of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, with the outbreak of hostilities, the territory of Bessarabia was ceded to the USSR. After the end of the war, this territory remained part of Moldova, which caused discontent with Romania, since these lands were considered hers. The Romanian government tried to return these territories, to include Moldova in its composition, which would mean the end of the existence of the Moldovan nation.
