Darius I (550-486 BC) is considered one of the most prominent rulers of the Persian state. During his reign, he carried out many administrative, economic and military reforms that were very successful. In addition, he conducted many military campaigns. In 516 BC. Darius annexed the territory of the Indus Valley to Persia, where a separate satrapy “India” was created. In 514 BC. the king made an unsuccessful campaign against the Scythians. in 512 BC. Thrace and Macedonia recognized the power of Persia over themselves. In the period from 500 to 490 BC. Darius wages constant wars with the Greek city-states, which end in the unsuccessful battle of Marathon and the defeat of the entire Persian fleet. Darius died in 486 BC, when he was going to suppress the uprising in Egypt.
