Ribosomes structure and function.

Ribosomes are made up of proteins and ribonucleic acid (RNA for short) in almost equal amounts. They are made up of two sections known as subunits. The thinner subunit is where the mRNA binds and decodes, while the larger subunit is where the amino acids are incorporated.
Ribosomes take on the role of combining amino acids to form specific proteins that are essential to complete cell activity. Protein is required for numerous cell functions, such as directing chemical processes or fixing damage. Ribosomes can still be found floating within the cytoplasm or connected to the endoplasmic reticulum.
