Similarities between graphite and diamond.

The only similarity between graphite and diamond is that they are one simple substance – carbon. This is where the similarities end. Graphite has low hardness, while diamond, on the other hand, has high hardness. Also, the density of diamond is greater than that of graphite; the diamond is transparent, the graphite is black; graphite conducts electric current, diamond does not. All these features are explained by the fact that graphite and diamond have different structures of the atomic lattice.
