Simultaneously from two villages, the distance between which is 24 km, a cyclist and a pedestrian set
Simultaneously from two villages, the distance between which is 24 km, a cyclist and a pedestrian set off towards each other. They met after 1.5 hours. Determine the speed of the pedestrian if the speed of the cyclist is 12 km / h.
1. Find out how many kilometers a cyclist will travel in 1.5 hours if he moves at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour:
12 * 1.5 = 18 (km).
2. Determine how many kilometers a pedestrian traveled in 1.5 hours, if the distance between villages is 24 kilometers, and the cyclist traveled 18 kilometers before the meeting:
24 – 18 = 6 (km).
3. Let’s find the speed at which the pedestrian moved before meeting the cyclist, if he covered 6 kilometers in an hour and a half:
6: 1.5 = 4 (km / h).
Answer: the pedestrian walked at a speed of 4 kilometers per hour.
