| In order to apply the substitution method to solve the system:
-x + 2y = 4;
7x – 3y = 5,
we start by expressing the variable x in terms of y from the first equation of the system and obtain the following system of equations.
System of equations:
x = 2y – 4;
7x – 3y = 5.
Next, we substitute in the second equation instead of x the expression 2y – 4 from the first equation and get:
x = 2y – 4;
7 (2y – 4) – 3y = 5.
We solve the second equation of the system:
14y – 28 – 3y = 5;
11y = 5 + 28;
11y = 33;
y = 33: 11;
y = 3.
System of equations:
x = 2 * 3 – 4 = 6 – 4 = 2;
y = 3.
