Stages of decolonization after World War II by years.

We are talking about the period after 1945. After the end of World War II, the metropolitan countries were weakened, so the colonies began to fight for independence in 1945. The first were the Dutch and French, Indonesia and Vietnam.

So, the first stage, from 1945 to 1955. Its result was the independence of 11 states: Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Burma, Sri Lanka, Libya.

The second phase lasted until the late 1960s. During this period, many French colonies in Africa were liberated, as well as the Spanish Equatorial Guinea. 1960 became the Year of Africa, when 17 countries gained independence.

Third stage: 1970-1980s. In 1975, the former Portuguese colonies (Angola, Mozambique and others) gained independence, and new African countries appeared, which were previously under the control of the white minority – Namibia (until 1990 it was controlled by South Africa) and Zimbabwe (until 1979 – Southern Rhodesia).
