The social division within the ancient Roman community into patrons and clients occurred due to the material insecurity of the latter. The country had a seed and a lineage that was very rich and there were poor individuals. To get the opportunity to work and have at least some profit from public lands, poor people became clients of the rich. Uniting around wealthy families, they survived.
