Substances are given in two test tubes: a) glucose; b) sucrose. Determine these substances using characteristic chemical reactions and write the corresponding reaction equations.
Glucose has an aldehyde group – СОН, therefore it is characterized by reactions for this group, as well as for aldehydes. A qualitative reaction to the -СОН – group is the reaction of the “silver mirror” and the reaction with copper (II) hydroxide.
Fructose does not have such a group, these reactions are not typical for it.
When glucose is oxidized with an ammonia solution of silver oxide, silver is deposited on the walls of the test tube.
When interacting with a blue solution of copper (II) hydroxide, a red precipitate is formed – copper (I) oxide.
СН2ОН – (СНОН) 4 – СОН + 2 Сu (OH) 2 → CH2OH- (CHOH) 4 –COOH + Cu2O ↓ + H2O.
СН2ОН – (СНОН) 4 – СОН + Ag2O → CH2OH- (CHOH) 4 –COOH + 2Ag ↓.
