The 16th century in the development of Russian architecture was marked by the emergence of the tent style. Although, as before, there were buildings made in a cross-domed style. The main buildings of the 16th century. were:

1) Archangel Cathedral (on the territory of the Moscow Kremlin), built according to the project of Aleviz Novy.

2) Novodevichy Convent (1524).

3) Church of the Ascension (near Moscow in the village of Kolomenskoye). It was dedicated to the birth of the long-awaited heir to Vasily III (1532).

4) Intercession Cathedral (also known as St. Basil’s Cathedral). It was built in memory of the capture of Kazan (architects Barma and Postnik; according to legend, their eyes were gouged out so that they could not create anything more beautiful in the future).

5) In the XVI century. under the leadership of F. Kon, they built fortifications of Kitai-Gorod and the walls of the White City (now the Boulevard Ring). Also during this period, the Earthen City (now the Garden Ring) was erected.

6) Ivan the Great Bell Tower (architects: Fryazin, Horse).
