According to Newton’s first law, matter will move in a straight line unless it is forced to do otherwise. For example, a washing machine ingeniously applies Newton’s ideas to twisting soaked laundry. In the cycle of rotation of the washing machine, the drum rotates quickly, these are the inner walls that constantly push the clothes along a circular path. This change in direction by definition means that the garment is accelerating and therefore subject to external force. Rapid mechanical rotation can be quite powerful.
