Tell us about the structure of the Roman Republic.

The Roman Republic was a very centralized country. All power, both civil and military, was concentrated in the hands of the Senate and the people’s assemblies (kamitsia). In the capital, there were several dozen rich and influential families, whose members were elected to the Senate or the assembly. The Senate also controlled the state treasury, the army and diplomatic relations. And the work of the senate and the kamitsia was supervised by the chief officials of the country – the consuls, who were elected for a year’s term of office.
