Tell us how the ordinary Egyptians dressed, how they lived and how they ate.

Simple Egyptians lived in small houses built of baked bricks in the sun and covered with palm leaves. Small gardens were laid out near the houses. There were pomegranate trees, fig trees, date palms and grapes. They were eaten fresh or dried, and wine was also made. Each family had a small vegetable garden and domestic animals. Common Egyptians wore coarse linen clothing. Because of the hot climate, men wore only loincloths made of bleached linen, while women wore straight, tight dresses.
