Thalamus: structural and functional features.

Thalamus is a part of the brain located in the diencephalon. It also consists of two halves that stand symmetrically in the interhemispheric plane. It is located deeper than the structures of the cerebrum. Below it are the structures of the midbrain.
The thalamus has several physiological functions. It regulates the level of consciousness, sleep and wakefulness processes, concentrates attention. It is also responsible for information from the motor organs.
