Let the smaller part of the segment be (x) cm, then the larger part of the segment is (2x) cm. Both parts together have a length of (x + 2x) cm or 36 cm. Let’s make an equation and solve it.

x + 2x = 36;

3x = 36;

x = 36: 3;

x = 12 (cm) – the smaller part;

2x = 12 * 2 = 24 (cm) – most.
