The alloy contains 27.3 g of silver, which is 0.35 of the alloy, the rest are metals. Find the mass of other metals in the alloy.

There are two ways to solve the presented problem. Let’s consider each of them.

1 way

Let’s find the part that other metals in the alloy make up:

1 – 0.35 = 0.65 – are other metals.

Let’s make a proportion and express the mass of other metals:

27.3 g – 0.35;

x g – 0.65.

x = (27.3 * 0.65) / 0.35 = (27.3 * 65) / 35 = 50.7 g – the mass of other metals.

2 way

Let us find through the proportion the mass of the entire alloy:

x g – 1;

27.3 g – 0.35.

x = (27.3 * 1) / 0.35 = 78 g.

We calculate the mass of other metals through the difference in masses:

78 – 27.3 = 50.7 g is the mass of other metals.

Answer: 50.7 g.
