| The alloy of zinc and lead weighing 1600 g contains 25% lead. Find: a) Weight of zinc and weight of lead in the alloy (in grams); b) How many percent of zinc in the alloy; c) What percentage is the weight of lead from the weight of zinc.
a) Let M be the mass of the alloy, mts is the mass of zinc, mc is the mass of lead, then:
M = mts + mc = mts + 0.25 * M = 1600,
from where
zinc mass mts = 1200 g,
lead mass mс = 400 g.
b) Because the alloy contains 25% lead, then it contains zinc (100% – 25%) = 75%.
c) The mass of lead is the percentage of the mass of zinc:
(mc / mts) * 100% = (400/1200) * 100% = 33.3%.
