First: the body is elongated, consists of segments – rings. It is a representative of the Malochaetae class, therefore there are 8 setae on each segment of the body.
Second, the skin has many mucus-secreting glands. It reduces the frictional force when the worm moves in the soil, protecting it from injury, killing bacteria, and most importantly, makes it possible to breathe, because oxygen enters the bloodstream only through moist skin.
